Welcome to my personal ranking of the 50 greatest Westerns of all time. This blog can be used in two ways:
First, for those who aren’t familiar with the genre, the list is a way to select the best Western movies to watch. For those readers, I have provided a short generic synopsis of each movie.
Second, for critics and aficionados who have already seen most of these movies, I have provided a quantitative justification for my rankings based on a unique point system (explanation of point calculations here).
I’ve also written a brief commentary for each movie and provided a link to more extensive reviews I have posted in the “User Reviews” section of the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com).
A warning. All of my commentaries and reviews contain spoilers. If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you might want to avoid reading this section.
